3 Chapters Done – And Crows Came to Visit

Writing this book feels amazing.

I’ve been planning Haunted Sugarwood book 2 for a while now. The characters and their world feel like second nature, and finally getting to play around in this expansion of the series is a ton of fun. Genuinely laugh-out-loud enjoyable.

If you’re not familiar with Haunted Sugarwood, it mixes comedy, drama, and romance with horror that’s sometimes supernatural, sometimes bloody. In the first book, we follow 19-year-old Joss after she moves to Sugarwood and learns they might have a kidnapping ghost there. In book 2, Don’t Let Me Down, we’ll catch up with Joss just as soon as we spend some time with our new heroine, Harper Posey.

It’s been 9 months since Joss’ big showdown at the end of book 1. And it’s only a matter of time before Harper Posey walks right into her own dose of the supernatural. What will happen when these two scream queens cross paths? They’re so different from each other, it’s going to be epic.

Joss is independent, mature for her age, down-to-earth, and dyes her hair purple. Harper Posey is feminine, preppy, responsible, and cares way too much about what other people think.

Having finished my 3rd chapter yesterday, I’m excited to say I have a lot of favorite parts already. Serious, chip-on-her-shoulder Connie from book 1 still has her stay-away-from-me attitude, but we finally meet someone who can put her in her place with effortless humor. I liked writing bits and pieces of original songs for book 1, and I didn’t think I’d get to do that for this book because instead of music, I have to make up a lot of horror movies. However, I did find myself writing the best/worst/best-again lyrics to a fictional cult classic called Suicidal Cannibal: The Musical. And later sang them to my husband. #livingmybestlife

On top of writing Don’t Let Me Down, you might’ve noticed I snuck a new banner up on my front page. I do have a new author picture, and it’s slowly getting to all the places it needs to be. I wanted a side-cut for a long time, and after last year’s Eurovision, seeing the female guitarist totally rocking her look performing Jezebel, I decided to enlist my amazing husband’s help in achieving my dramatic hair dream. I love it.

We’ve had 3 crows hanging around the neighborhood for several weeks now. 2 of them decided to drop by one of the trees outside my office window today. They’re quite active, flying all around and crowing as loud as they please. I appreciate all my bird visitors, even if they are sometimes a delightful distraction.

More news and updates are on the way. But my next book is coming along, and that’s the happiest, best news I could share with you.

Enjoy whatever you’re reading today,

Cassandra
